Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The buzz around The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team might be building a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve with a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be approached in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can anticipate more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
